Pedestrian killed in accident on Lusignan Public Road

A 43-year-old Lusignan resident was struck down and killed along the Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Sunday evening.

Dead is Arvindo Mahaballi of Lusignan. Police said the fatal accident occurred at about 19:18 hours and involved motor car PAK 2521, driven by a 28-year-old taxi driver of Buxton.

Initial enquiries revealed that the motor car was proceeding west along the northern driving lane of the southern carriageway of the Lusignan Public Road when it collided with Mahaballi, who was reportedly in the process of crossing the roadway.

Reports indicate that the pedestrian sustained multiple injuries about his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor on duty from the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Mahaballi’s body was subsequently escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyser test administered to the driver recorded readings of 0.032% and 0.029% blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Police said the vehicle has since been lodged pending examination, and the driver remains in custody assisting with investigations.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision are ongoing.
