Ogle pensioner found dead with stab wounds; husband arrested

Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of 89‑year‑old pensioner Lackandai Tamessar, who was discovered with stab wounds at her Ogle Airstrip Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident is believed to have occurred sometime between Friday, December 26, 2025, around 16:00 hrs, and Tuesday, December 30, 2025, around 13:00 hrs.

Investigators said Tamessar was last seen alive on December 26 when a relative visited her. Four days later, the same relative returned to the residence and found her lying motionless with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.

The elderly woman was taken to the Plaisance Health Centre, where a doctor pronounced her dead on arrival. Her body was later transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post‑mortem examination.

Police confirmed that an 88‑year‑old man, identified as the deceased’s husband, was at the home when the discovery was made. He has since been arrested and is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
