A 22-year-old Venezuelan labourer is nursing a gunshot wound after he was attacked and robbed by two men on a motorcycle on Saturday evening at Flamboyant Street, Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred at about 19:40 hours as the victim was walking east along Flamboyant Street after leaving a supermarket in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the labourer was approached by two identifiable males riding a motorcycle. The pillion rider reportedly dismounted and confronted the victim, resulting in a scuffle.

During the confrontation, the pillion rider allegedly discharged a firearm, striking the victim on his left leg. The suspects then relieved him of one cellular phone and $30,000 before fleeing west along the roadway on the motorcycle.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, and the injured man was transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention. His condition has been listed as stable.

Police recovered one 9mm spent shell at the scene, which has since been lodged as evidence. CCTV cameras were observed in the area, and investigators are expected to review the footage as part of ongoing investigations.

Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects.
