John José Marciano, a 55-year-old gold miner of Wismar, Linden, was discovered dead early Saturday at a mining camp at 14 Miles Issano, Middle Mazaruni River, bearing multiple chop wounds.

Police said the gruesome find was made at about 03:45 hrs, when Marciano was seen slumped on the ground inside the camp with several injuries to his body. Investigators recovered a cutlass close to the body, which is suspected to be the weapon used in the killing.

As the probe continues, police have taken a 35-year-old female cook from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, into custody to assist with the probe.

Additionally, a 19-year-old miner from Tapakuma, Essequibo Coast, was arrested in Anna Regina, Region Two, on Sunday and remains in custody as investigations intensify.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
