A 9mm pistol and 11 matching rounds of ammunition were discovered at St. Agnes Primary School in Georgetown on Monday afternoon, prompting a police investigation.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the firearm and ammunition were found at about 13:06 hrs at the school.
Reports indicate that a teacher was in her classroom when she received a report of a suspicious sound near a student’s desk. Checks were then carried out, during which the firearm was discovered under the desk.
Police ranks were summoned to the school and later took possession of the 9mm pistol along with eleven rounds of matching ammunition. The items were escorted to the police station, where they were lodged pending further investigations.
Investigators have since contacted persons in connection with the firearm, and statements were taken. Police said investigations are ongoing.
