Lalita Bridgelall, the mother of Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud, says she is still trying to come to terms with the events that ended in the death of her seven-year-old granddaughter, Isabella, on Sunday morning.
Bridgelall told reporters that on the night before the incident, her daughter appeared deeply troubled and had spoken about personal and financial problems, including issues surrounding the absence of her partner, Kirwayne Dabidyal.
According to Bridgelall, she made efforts to check on her daughter at Fyrish Village, but Shivpersaud reportedly refused to see her. She said her concerns deepened after her daughter later shared an alarming post on social media.
The worried mother said she then went to Shivpersaud’s home, where she was met with a horrifying scene. When she arrived, she found her daughter bleeding and both children unresponsive.
Emergency assistance was sought, and the family was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. However, Isabella was pronounced dead on arrival.
Reports indicate that Shivpersaud also allegedly tried to harm her one-year-old son, Ethan, but the child survived.
Bridgelall, overcome with grief, said she is struggling to process what has happened.
“I can’t take it, I got to have faith. I can’t imagine what happened,” she said.
She also alleged that her daughter had been enduring domestic abuse at the hands of Dabidyal.
Shivpersaud remains a patient at the hospital under police guard and is expected to face charges in connection with the death of her daughter and the attack on her son.
Police had said in an earlier statement that they are investigating the alleged murder of Isabella Dabadial, a student of Cooper Primary School, and the attempted murder of her younger brother Ethan at Fyrish Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
