The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Monday opened its Women in Aviation Conference at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, with Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar urging greater female participation in the industry.
The two-half-day conference, which runs through March 31, has brought together aviation professionals, industry leaders, and other stakeholders to promote the advancement of women across the sector.
Delivering the feature address at the opening ceremony, Indar said Guyana must continue building an aviation industry that is inclusive, modern, and internationally competitive, with women playing a central role in its growth.

“The Government of Guyana is committed to building an aviation sector that is inclusive, modern, and world-class, with women playing a pivotal role in its development,” the minister said.
Indar also highlighted several major aviation projects currently being pursued by the government, including the construction of Terminal Two at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, the establishment of a Civil Aviation School of Excellence, and the development of two new municipal airports.
He said those initiatives reflect the country’s broader effort to modernise and expand the aviation sector.
Also speaking at the conference was GCAA Director General Lt. Col. (ret’d) Egbert Field, who said safety remains the aviation industry’s top priority.
He added that the sector is stronger when women occupy important roles and encouraged participants to continue striving for greater achievements.
According to the GCAA, the conference will include panel discussions and networking sessions to inspire and equip the next generation of female aviation professionals.
