Ex-cop dies after Corentyne crash near unfinished roadway

A 34-year-old former police officer has died after sustaining severe injuries in a crash at Number 74 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

Dead is Seon Hunte of 43 Albert Street, Number 79 Village, Corentyne. Reports indicate that Hunte left his home and was travelling toward Georgetown when he got into difficulty near a recently constructed bridge, where a section of the roadway is reportedly still incomplete.

His vehicle later struck a utility pole and came to rest in an empty lot, according to the information received.

Speaking with reporters, his reputed wife, Tishana Harrilall, said she was alerted on Sunday morning and rushed to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where she saw him in critical condition.

“When I reach, I go in and see him lying, breathing hard,” Harrilall recalled.

She said relatives were later told that Hunte would be placed on life support, and she returned home, only to receive another call hours later to go back to the hospital.

Harrilall said that when she arrived, she was informed that Hunte had died. Information gathered indicates that Hunte suffered a fractured skull, broken feet, and injuries to his throat and spine.

Hunte was remembered by relatives as a warm, easy-going man.
