A 23-year-old labourer from Dartmouth Village, Essequibo Coast, is in police custody after ranks allegedly found cannabis and MDMA, commonly known as “Molly,” during a patrol at Charity Backstreet.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Region Two.

Police said ranks were conducting a mobile patrol in the area when they observed the man standing between two stalls.

As the officers exited their vehicle, the suspect was reportedly seen throwing a bulky black plastic bag and a small whitish plastic bag onto the top of a shed.

The two bags were retrieved and searched in the man’s presence. Investigators said the bags contained several leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with two transparent zip-lock bags containing crystal-like rocks suspected to be methylenedioxymethamphetamine, also known as MDMA or “Molly.”

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Charity Police Station along with the narcotics. Police said the suspected cannabis was weighed in the suspect’s presence and amounted to 230 grams, while the suspected MDMA weighed 6 grams. Both substances were processed and lodged. The labourer remains in custody pending charges.
