The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that an inquest be held into the death of 27-year-old pork-knocker Matthew Ramlochand, who was killed during an incident at Barakat Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven, earlier this month.
Ramlochand, of the Soesdyke–Linden Highway, died on Sunday, January 11, 2026, following an alleged attack at the landing.
Police said investigations led to the arrest of a 38-year-old male gold miner of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden, on Friday, January 16, 2026, in connection with the matter.
After completing investigations, police said a file was prepared and submitted to the DPP’s Chambers for legal advice. In an update on Tuesday morning, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said investigators received direction from the DPP that an inquest be conducted into Ramlochand’s death.
Police investigators in Regional Division Seven had reported that the incident involved two brothers, both employed as pork-knockers in the area.
