A 47-year-old Corentyne woman is recovering in hospital after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times by her partner during a domestic dispute on Tuesday, in an incident that later ended with the man’s death.

Reports indicate that the woman, Olive Thompson, a ten-day worker, was injured during an argument with her partner, Patrick Singh, 46, a cane harvester, at around 13:40 hrs. The disagreement reportedly escalated, and Singh allegedly attacked Thompson with a knife, leaving her with 12 stab wounds on her body.

After the attack, Singh reportedly committed suicide. Speaking with reporters, the couple’s daughter, Chandra Singh, said she and her siblings were in Rose Hall Town when they received word of the incident and rushed home.

“We left him in the hammock, and she was inside. When we left for Rose Hall Town, everything was normal; there was no argument,” she recalled.

Chandra said her mother’s injuries included wounds to several areas of her body and that her liver was also damaged. She explained that doctors performed surgery to repair the liver, and the procedure was successful.

She added that her mother has been improving over the past few days, though she remains in pain and has only been able to speak briefly. Chandra also said she was unaware of any prior issues between her parents and noted that the family had planned an outing to the No. 63 beach later that day.

Police are continuing investigations into the matter.
