A brother and sister were tragically found dead on Tuesday morning in a trench along the Melanie Damishana/Enterprise Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), in what police are investigating as drowning.
The victims have been identified as Jadon De Courte, 10, and Tianna De Courte, 8, both pupils of Melanie Damishana.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred between 08:00hrs and 11:05hrs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that at about 08:00 hours, the children had left their home with their mother and were in the area when they reportedly wandered away.
At approximately 11:05 hours, police received information that two children were found motionless in a trench at Melanie/Enterprise. The children’s mother was alerted and later identified the bodies as those of her son and daughter.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene and pronounced both children dead. Authorities reported that no marks of violence were observed on their bodies.
