A Berbice amateur boxer and another male have been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

The accused are 19-year-old Terron Wintz and 20-year-old Keson Kesney. They appeared before the Albion Magistrates’ Court to answer a charge of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under the age of 15.

Wintz, who was reportedly slated to represent Berbice at the National Boxing Championship, which opened on Friday at the National Sports Hall, was remanded to prison. Kesney was also remanded.

The two appeared without legal representation, and the court was told Kesney participated via Zoom as he is currently remanded in custody on an unrelated matter.

After hearing the prosecution’s presentation, Magistrate Michelle Mathias refused bail for both accused. The case has since been transferred to the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court and is set to continue on January 5, 2026.

According to reports surrounding the incident, the alleged offence occurred a few weeks ago at a house in Region Six. The girl was reportedly taken to Wintz’s residence by a 16-year-old female schoolmate.

The court was further told that several males were at the location drinking when the teenager was allegedly taken into a room and assaulted. The child’s mother later saw a video circulating on social media in relation to the matter, according to the reports.

The incident was subsequently reported, and police were contacted. Following investigations, ranks arrested the two suspects and instituted charges.
