A 40-year-old self-employed man is in police custody after ranks seized a quantity of marijuana and more than $3 million in cash during an intelligence-led operation in Bartica on Friday.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the operation was carried out between 10:30 hrs and 11:20 hrs at Fifth Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo River, where police searched the man’s residence.
During the search, police said they found 13 zip-lock parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems believed to be marijuana in the living room area. Further searches reportedly uncovered $3,009,440 in cash.
The man was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station, where the marijuana was weighed in his presence and amounted to 23.2 grams, police said. The narcotics and cash were lodged as investigations continue. The suspect remains in custody as the probe continues.
