A 45-year-old labourer of the Anna Regina Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, has been sentenced to prison and fined after admitting to a cocaine trafficking-related offence.
The accused, Ramesh Gangoo, was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
Gangoo was arrested on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, on the Anna Regina Old Market Road, Essequibo Coast, after ranks found 2.2 grams of cocaine in his possession.
He appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty. Gangoo was sentenced to one year in prison and fined $30,000.
