Police in Regional Division # 7 are investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Thursday January 29, 2026 about 20:15hrs at a mining camp operated by a Mining Company, located at Oko Backdam, Cuyuni River.
Preliminary investigations revealed that several workers were at the camp when an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) approached with three masked males, all reportedly armed with firearms. The men held the workers at gunpoint and demanded that they hand over their valuables; however, no valuables were reported to have been taken.
During the incident, several rounds were discharged into the air by the suspects before they fled the area.
No injuries were reported. Police ranks were deployed to the area to commence an investigation.
Investigations are continuing.
