Police have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of 27‑year‑old driver Amar Jones, who was killed on Tuesday, along Half Mile Public Road, Wismar, Linden.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 15:00 hrs while Jones was travelling in a motor canter. Preliminary investigations indicate that a motor car approached the vehicle, after which an unidentified man exited and opened fire on Jones before returning to the car and fleeing the scene.
When police ranks arrived, they found Jones motionless in the driver’s seat. He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was later transported to the G‑Jetsco Funeral Home, where it awaits a post‑mortem examination.
Police confirmed that a 24‑year‑old woman from Amelia’s Ward, Linden, has been arrested and is in custody assisting with the investigation. A motor vehicle has also been seized and is being processed as part of the probe.
The investigation remains ongoing.
