Miner, 39, arrested as police seize 5kg of cannabis at Parika

A 39-year-old miner of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD), is in police custody after ranks discovered five kilograms of cannabis during an operation at the Parika Foreshore, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), on Friday afternoon.

Police said the discovery was made around 16:30 hrs as ranks were on foot patrol in the area and acting on information received. The suspect was reportedly at a boat house when the patrol made contact with him.

According to investigators, ranks searched the man and his belongings and found a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems, all of which were cannabis, inside a bag he owned.

The miner was arrested and escorted to the Parika Police Station along with the narcotics. Police said the substance was weighed in the suspect’s presence and amounted to five kilograms.

The cannabis was lodged as evidence, and the man remains in custody pending charges. Investigations are continuing.
