A 28-year-old man of Region Six has pleaded guilty to raping a nine-year-old girl in October 2024.
D’Andre Perry, 28, appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon in the Berbice High Court. The incident occurred on October 19, 2024, while the girl was on her way to her grandfather’s house.
Perry called for the girl, invited her into his home, where he exposed his private parts and started to masturbate before violating her. The girl started to scream, and Perry fled the house on his bicycle.
The child went to her relative’s home and was questioned about the blood on her clothing, but she fainted before she could respond. When she regained consciousness, she related what had transpired.
She was taken to the hospital and had to undergo surgery. The court was told that she lost blood as a result of the incident.
Following the plea, Justice Kissoon ordered that a probation report be prepared ahead of sentencing. The court also heard that State Prosecutor Cecil Corbin will present an impact statement before sentencing.
Perry has been remanded to prison and is expected to return to court on January 6, 2026, for sentencing.
