Neil Medas, called “Shoulders,” who had confessed to breaking into the Ministry of Home Affairs and carting off with several items, was on Wednesday remanded to prison after he was slapped with five counts of break and enter and larceny.

Medas, 48, unemployed and of no fixed place of abode, was arraigned before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty. The charges relate to break-ins allegedly committed on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, and the premises of three other individuals.

The charges were read to him, and Medas pleaded guilty to all five offences. He was remanded to prison, and the matters were adjourned to January 7, 2026, for further report and sentencing.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the break and enter and larceny at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Brickdam, Georgetown, occurred between 03:00 hrs and 04:55 hrs on December 8. Several electronic devices, including laptop computers, electronic tablets, and digital cameras, were reported stolen, along with a quantity of personal property belonging to a staff member.

Investigators said sections of the Ministry’s middle and lower flats were ransacked. An eastern-side washroom window on the lower flat was found open and is believed to be the point of entry used by the intruder.

CCTV footage from the building was obtained and reviewed by investigators. Police said this led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Medas, and the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen during the break-in.
