A Berbice fisherman was stabbed to death during an altercation at Albion Front, Corentyne, and another fisherman is now in police custody.
Dead is Franklyn Sauers, called “Franky”, a 34-year-old fisherman of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice.
Police said the alleged murder occurred at about 22:00hrs on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Albion Front, Corentyne. The suspect has been identified as a 28-year-old fisherman of Albion Front.
According to preliminary investigations, Sauers and the suspect were known to each other. Police said the suspect was at his residence on the night in question when Sauers reportedly entered the house.
An altercation then broke out between the two men. Police officers later responded to the scene, where Sauers was found lying motionless in the living room with apparent stab wounds to his neck and left rib area.
The 28-year-old suspect was contacted at the scene, arrested and escorted to the Albion Police Station, where he was placed in custody.
Sauers was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was later taken to the Ramoo Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
