A 23-year-old Venezuelan woman is hospitalised after she was allegedly wounded during a confrontation with another woman at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the incident occurred at about 08:30hrs on Saturday. The injured woman has been identified as Andreina Nunez, a Venezuelan national.

According to initial investigations, Nunez and the 19-year-old female suspect, who is also Venezuelan, occupy separate flats in a two-storey building at Meten-Meer-Zorg.

Police said the two women were reportedly involved in a heated argument before the situation escalated into a physical confrontation. The landlord intervened and later went to the Leonora Police Station to report the matter.

However, upon returning to the property, he allegedly saw the suspect holding a black-handled knife, while Nunez was lying in the yard with injuries.

Police were immediately summoned. Nunez was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where she was admitted. Her condition is listed as stable.

The suspect was arrested and remains in custody. Police said the scene was processed and several persons were questioned as investigations continue.
