The husband of Opposition Member of Parliament Natasha Singh remains in police custody as investigators continue probing the discovery of a firearm and ammunition in a car at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said investigators contacted Singh at about 09:00hrs on Wednesday, and informed her of the alleged offence of possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence.
Police said Singh was cautioned and, acting on the advice of her attorney, provided a written statement.
Later that morning, at about 10:58hrs, investigators contacted Shane Fordyce and informed him of the same alleged offence. He was also cautioned and provided a written statement after consulting with his attorney.
As part of the investigation, Opposition MP Dawn Hastings-Williams was interviewed at Regional Police Division 4 ‘B’ Headquarters, where she provided a statement and handed over a copy of Firearm Licence No. 191501, dated February 16, 2026.
Police said the licence is for a Glock 19 9mm pistol bearing serial number BBVD168.
The firearm, magazine and ammunition were subsequently taken to the Ballistics Section at Eve Leary, where they were lodged for safekeeping.
Singh has since been released on $200,000 cash bail, while Fordyce remains in police custody. The motor car involved in the investigation also remains lodged.
Police said a case file is being prepared for legal advice.
In an earlier statement, the GPF said ranks from Regional Division 4 ‘B’ Headquarters went to a property at Public Road, Friendship, at about 00:15hrs on Wednesday, acting on information received.
There, police said, they intercepted motor car PAH 4034, a black Toyota Allion, occupied by a 35-year-old businessman of Campbellville, Georgetown, and his wife, Natasha Singh.
The vehicle was stopped and searched in the presence of both occupants. During the search, police said ranks found a bag in the trunk containing one Glock 19 9mm pistol, along with a magazine containing 12 live rounds of ammunition.
Police said a photocopy of a firearm licence issued in the name of Dawn Hastings-Williams was also found in the bag.
The firearm and ammunition were taken into possession, and both occupants were cautioned and arrested before being escorted to the Farm/Herstelling Police Station, along with the motor car.
