Two Corentyne men were fatally stabbed during an altercation near Water Street on Friday morning, and police have arrested a suspect and recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
The victims were identified as Junior Browne, 23, a vendor, and Tyrone Captain, 36, both of Corentyne, Berbice.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the confrontation occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. near Bounty Supermarket.
Browne was reportedly stabbed once in the neck. Despite his injury, he ran toward Commerce Street before collapsing. He died at the scene.
Captain sustained two stab wounds to his neck and another to the left side of his chest. He was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
Police identified the suspect as Angelo Answick, a 29-year-old salesman from Industry on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD). He was arrested shortly after the incident and remained in custody as investigators continued gathering evidence.
