Man known as ‘Gandy’ stabbed to death in Hadfield Street brawl

Police are investigating the murder of a man known only as “Gandy,” who was fatally stabbed during an early morning confrontation on Hadfield Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.

The dead man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, was said to be of no fixed place of abode.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday. Preliminary investigations revealed that Gandy was on Hadfield Street when he was approached by a man known to him, after which a scuffle reportedly broke out between the two.

During the confrontation, the suspect, who was allegedly armed with a knife, stabbed the man to the centre of his chest. The injured man collapsed at the scene, while the suspect fled north with the weapon.

Emergency Medical Technicians were later summoned, and the victim was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police said CCTV cameras in the area have been identified and will be reviewed as part of the investigation. The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting formal identification and a post-mortem examination. The suspect remains on the run as investigations continue.
