A security officer from Brooklyn, New York, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison and fined more than $14 million after pleading guilty to trafficking cannabis through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Bradley Hibbert appeared before Magistrate Temika Clarke at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
CANU said Hibbert pleaded guilty to the offence, which involved 15.798 kilograms of cannabis. He was subsequently sentenced to 38 months’ imprisonment and fined $14,182,300.
The matter stemmed from an operation carried out in January 2026, when Hibbert was intercepted by CANU officers at the arrival terminal of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
A search of his three suitcases reportedly led to the discovery of 28 compressed black plastic parcels containing cannabis. The narcotic weighed 15.758 kilograms.
