A 19-year-old woman was killed on Saturday morning after a minibus reportedly lost control and overturned several times along the Moblissa Public Road, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

Dead is Sarah Simon of Moblissa. Police said the fatal accident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. in the vicinity of Rubin Sawmill and involved minibus BAK 9272, which was being driven by a 22-year-old man, also of Moblissa.

According to initial investigations, the minibus was travelling south along the eastern side of the roadway at an alleged high rate of speed when the driver lost control while negotiating a left bend.

The vehicle reportedly turned turtle several times before coming to a stop on the eastern parapet.

As a result of the crash, both the driver and Simon were pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex.

Simon was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor, while the driver was admitted as a patient.

Her body was later taken to the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The minibus has since been lodged for examination by a licensing and certifying officer. Police investigations are continuing.
