Residents of the new housing development at La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara (ECD), are set to benefit from a series of infrastructure and community improvements, including upgraded roads, a police outpost, improved street lighting, and a future recreational space.
Housing Minister Collin Croal, on Monday, met with residents of the scheme, where he outlined plans aimed at improving infrastructure, security, and the overall quality of life in the community.

The meeting was held at the residents’ invitation and followed a similar engagement last year to address concerns affecting the area.
Also attending were Head of the Guyana Livestock Development Authority Dr. Dwight Walrond, Dr. Randy Persaud of the Office of the President, Commander of Region 4 ‘C’ Division Khali Pareshram, and engineers of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Davindra Ramnarine, Orlando Arno, and Raefer Clinton.
During the meeting, Croal announced that the eastern and western main access roads within the housing scheme, spanning approximately 5.56 kilometres, will be upgraded to asphalt. He said the project has already been tendered.

Additionally, about 3.5 kilometres of cross streets linking to the main access roads will be built as concrete roads to improve movement within the community.
In response to residents’ concerns about security, the minister said a site has already been identified for the construction of a police outpost in the scheme. The facility is expected to strengthen law enforcement presence and improve safety for residents.
Croal also said CH&PA will move to replace streetlights in the development that are not currently functioning, while overgrown sections of the scheme will be cleared and debushed.
Regarding water supply, residents are connected to the existing LBI well system. However, the area is expected to benefit in the future from a water treatment facility under Guyana Water Incorporated’s long-term plan to support the expansion of housing developments along the East Coast Demerara corridor.
The minister also said that, in keeping with the government’s push to build sustainable communities, a site has been identified for a playfield. Works will be undertaken to provide residents with a recreational space for sports and other community activities.
