The Ministry of Public Works has announced a strict daytime clearance policy for Sheriff Street, ordering the daily removal of all trucks, caravans, and stalls between 6:00h and 18:00h to keep the busy corridor safe and accessible.

In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said it recognises the “vibrant economic life” of Sheriff Street and its importance to the wider community, but stressed that action is necessary to maintain order during peak hours.

Under the new arrangement, vending will be permitted only outside the 6:00h to 18:00h period.

The ministry warned that any encumbrances found within the roadway or on pedestrian pathways during those hours will be removed.

It also clarified that no stalls or caravans should be placed on the road shoulders or reserves during the restricted period, defining the prohibited area as extending “from property line to property line on each side.”

According to the ministry, even caravans positioned behind the sidewalk must be removed if they fall within the restricted zone. Similarly, any establishment using a fence or structure that braces toward the road must ensure that it is removed daily.

The ministry urged full cooperation from vendors and business operators, saying the measure is intended to keep Sheriff Street clear and orderly for motorists and pedestrians.

It further advised that persons with concerns about demarcation should take note of the rules governing the use of road shoulders and reserves during the restricted hours.
