A 34-year-old Venezuelan national was killed late Saturday night after an electric cycle he was riding collided with a car along the Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is Carlos Eliber, a construction worker of Mon Repos. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the fatal accident occurred at about 23:50h on and involved motor car PAN 5007, driven by a 25-year-old man of Blossom Scheme, Enmore, and the electric cycle ridden by Eliber.

Police said initial enquiries revealed that the motor car was proceeding west along the southern driving lane of Enmore Public Road when Eliber allegedly rode across the road from north to south into the path of the vehicle.

The driver told investigators that he swerved south and applied the brakes to avoid a collision, but the right front of the car struck the electric cycle.

As a result of the impact, Eliber was flung into the air before landing on the road, sustaining multiple injuries to his body.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, and Eliber was later examined by a doctor attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital, who pronounced him dead.

His body was subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said a breathalyser test conducted on the driver detected 35 and 39 micrograms of alcohol in his breath. The driver remains in police custody as investigations continue.
