A 54-year-old foreman from Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was killed on Wednesday morning after the car in which he was travelling reportedly lost control and overturned several times along Rockstone Trail, Linden.

Dead is Steve George, who was an occupant in motor car PAD 1602. According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the fatal accident occurred at about 10:11 hrs and involved a 25-year-old driver of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Initial investigations revealed that the motor car was proceeding north along the western side of Rockstone Trail at an alleged high rate of speed when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle then ended up on the northern side of the trail, turned turtle several times, and eventually came to a stop in the centre of the roadway facing west.

As a result of the crash, George sustained multiple injuries to his body. He was reportedly picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

His body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The driver remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
