Driver in fatal Soesdyke-Linden Highway crash was speeding before head-on collision — police

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has reported that the 31-year-old Linden man, who died in Wednesday morning’s crash at Loo Creek along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, was allegedly driving at a fast rate when his car swerved and collided head-on with a lorry.

Dead is Keiran Daren Warner, of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden. In a statement, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the fatal accident occurred at about 06:30 hrs and involved motor car PZZ 943, driven by Warner, and motor lorry GXX 3002, driven by a 50-year-old man of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden.

According to police investigations, the lorry was proceeding north along the western driving lane of the highway in the vicinity of Loo Creek, while Warner was travelling south along the eastern driving lane.

Police said the motor car was allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed when it suddenly swerved in a south-western direction and crashed head-on into the lorry.

The impact left Warner pinned inside the vehicle with severe injuries to his body. Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, but after examining him, they pronounced him dead there.

His body has since been taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said a breathalyser test was conducted on the lorry driver and no trace of alcohol was found. The lorry driver remains in police custody as investigations continue.
