Police have launched an investigation into a brazen armed robbery that left a 36-year-old fish vendor nursing gunshot wounds in West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The incident occurred around 10:00 hrs on Thursday, February 27, 2026, at River View, West Ruimveldt.
According to preliminary reports from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the vendor was standing in front of his yard when he was approached by two unidentified men. One of the suspects was armed with what appeared to be a handgun.
Police said the armed suspect discharged several rounds in the vendor’s direction, striking him in the upper right thigh and right hip. As the injured man reeled from the attack, the second suspect allegedly relieved him of an undisclosed quantity of jewellery and cash.
The two men then fled the scene on foot. The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention. His condition has been listed as stable.
