Four suspects were arrested as police in Regional Division 4 ‘B’ investigate an alleged robbery under arms committed on a 59-year-old businesswoman at Herstelling New Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on Thursday night.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred at about 21:15h on February 12, 2026, while the woman was walking along a street in the area when she was approached by two males, one armed with what appeared to be a handgun and the other with a knife.

Police said the suspect with the knife allegedly placed it to the woman’s neck and demanded her valuables, while the second suspect stood by armed with the suspected firearm.

Fearing for her life, the woman handed over a bag containing two cellular phones and other personal items, with a total value of $93,500, police said. The suspects then fled the scene in a motor car.

Acting on information received, police later went to a residence at Bougainvillea Park, Farm, where a vehicle believed to be connected to the robbery was seen, the GPF said.

A search of the vehicle and premises led to the recovery of one of the stolen cellular phones, along with several other phones, two toy guns, a cutlass, scissors, a quantity of cash suspected to be counterfeit, and a bottle of wine.

The GPF said a 21-year-old driver, a 28-year-old labourer, a 19-year-old female, and a 24-year-old porter, all of Bougainvillea Park, Farm, were arrested and placed into custody pending investigations. Investigations are ongoing.
