Twenty-eight families in Lethem who have already started building their homes have received construction assistance vouchers from the government to help move their projects forward.

The vouchers were distributed early Friday by Minister of Housing Collin Croal, who was joined by Regional Housing Officer Teshana McDonald and staff of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA).

According to the ministry, the support forms part of the government’s efforts to assist persons who are actively constructing homes so they can continue building and get closer to completion.

During the handing-over exercise, Minister Croal said he was encouraged by the response to the programme and noted that many families are using the opportunity to speed up work on their homes.

He explained that in several cases, the construction already completed is being recognised by banks as collateral to help beneficiaries secure mortgages.

Croal said the initiative is intended to ease the financial burden on families while promoting home ownership.

For several recipients, the vouchers represent more than just monetary assistance, offering renewed hope that they can complete their homes.

One beneficiary, Nadia Davidson, said the support would make a meaningful difference for her and her family and thanked the government and the Ministry of Housing for the assistance.

Another recipient, Ron Albert, described the initiative as an important boost for his building project and said it should encourage more people to take advantage of the programme.

Alisa Mootoo, also among the beneficiaries, urged other families who are currently building to apply for the assistance, saying it offers valuable support to persons working toward owning their own homes.
